The ability to communicate effectively, especially in critical or stressful incidents, is essential to a police officer, dispatcher, or anyone in public service. Today’s law enforcement professionals are under constant scrutiny through easily shared personal video and a worldwide social media audience. Losing your cool, making the wrong statement, or simply having your legitimate words and actions taken out of context can dramatically impact the reputation of the officer and their department.

De-escalation is an often misunderstood term, and it does not work when both sides are "escalated." Using the science & research underlying human behavior & communication, this course will help the learner develop skills to reduce the impact of their emotions in stressful encounters by reducing the ego's role in conflict. These skills can then be used to form strategies to achieve positive outcomes by understanding and effectively communicating with difficult and hostile citizens.

How does this class differ from other communication classes, like Verbal Judo?

Verbal Judo is a good concept, but it is a procedure and comes across very cold and robotic. And, what happens when it doesn't work? Our program stresses the principles behind communication and provides strategies and tactics to develop the proper mindset to succeed in varying situations.

Officers are often resistant to soft skill training like this. Why would they accept your course?

Our curriculum was designed with this in mind, but our instructors, including our CEO, were street cops and spent many years in the field. The strategies presented here are supported by current research and are consistent with methods some already use.

Is this course about hugging violent suspects and restricting officers from protecting themselves?

No. It isn't. Police officers are presented with events that require a split-second response. This will likely never change. This course does not attempt to suggest otherwise. Our goal is to provide officers with a wider perspective, methods to identify the most effective and efficient means to reach a goal, and how to control the stress that decreases cognitive performance.

"This is the first class I actually wanted to listen to the instructor instead of watch videos, very interesting and I can use it right away."

"This needs to be taught in the academy, everyone needs it."
